What I love about podcasts is that you can do anything while listening to them. You can work, shower, drive somewhere or fall asleep to them. They’re often packed full of useful information & really let you make the most of every hour in your day. Being self-employed, gaining every valuable nugget of information is vital as is staying motivated, as such my top 5 podcast list reflects this. If you’re not self-employed or grinding up the career ladder, chances are one of these will motivate you into doing so.
The GaryVee Audio Experience
Gary Vaynerchuk is a household name in the ‘motivational’ circles. What separates him however is he doesn’t just preach success, he lives it and breathes it every day. Unlike some motivational speakers, Gary V has a track record of success, has made millions through eCommerce for his father’s wine business. Gary V is an expert networker and can be seen on many other podcasts including the Joe Rogan Experience. Gary’s also an expert at motivating you to get up and go and often offers real-world advice free to his listeners.
The Joe Rogan Experience
The Joe Rogan Experience is likely the one podcast of all of these listed that you’ve probably already heard about. JRE is now over 1000 episodes in featuring fascinating insights into celebrity culture, hunting, philosophy and the war on drugs. JRE isn’t for everyone, Joe is left & right on many controversial subjects and those easily offended or set in their ways will likely not engage with Joe.
While Joe can have periods of only focusing on one subject or often brings up certain themes, ( see Joe Rogan Bingo for more) his interview style often brings out the best in his guests and has led to some truly outstanding interviews. It’s not a podcast I’d recommend listening to in the car with family as it can be very NSFW.
Joe is also a standup comedian and UFC commentator and these often merge with JRE. Joe is also a co-founder of ONNIT which is a body & mind optimisation website which promotes healthy living & nootropics.
JOCKO Podcast
Jocko, a former navy seal & book authour of ‘Extreme Ownership’ and ‘Diary of a wimpy kid’ got into podcasting after being recommended to do so by Tim Ferris & Joe Rogan. Jocko is a stereotypical marine in that his humour & style of speaking is very military orientated. Jocko podcasts offer interesting book excerpts from important military events in history, like his book ‘extreme ownership’ and business he often offers advice for business employees & owners on how to handle situations. He also focuses on discipline in all areas and often encourages listeners to ‘Get after it’.
Jocko isn’t for everyone but is definitely up there with my ‘motivational’ podcasts. Jocko is often very good at putting everyday problems in perspective also.
The Tim Ferriss Show
Tim Ferriss is one of the most successful podcasters and businessmen you get advice off for free. Tim Ferriss has written some great books such as 4-Hour Work Week, 4-Hour Body and The 4-Hour Chef. Tim Ferriss would fit into my ‘optimisation’ list as he continually finds ways to make money, delegate work or optimise work.
The Tim Ferriss show is also one of the most downloaded podcasts in the world and is packed full of useful life advice & will help anyone to learn something new thats willing to listen.
TED RADIO HOUR
Ted radio hour puts the Ted talks into podcast form. Not my most listened to Podcast but a real gem will appear once in a while. Designed to help you think about the progress of the past & how to address problems and encourage new ideas for the future.
Thank you for listing wonderful podcasts. I tried to listen to one, and indeed it is very motivational. Not too late to be motivated this 2019.
